Standing at a bus stop, music beating in the headphones.
Facing a row of empty chairs, and a white painting.
Smoking, eating, drinking.
Holding a phone, in the traffic or at the restaurant.
Before an exam, an interview, a visit.
When a shop is not open, yet.
Or when someone has to give you a ride.
In bed, at Christmas. Or the week of your birthday.
Queueing for a book, a movie, a signature.
In front of the tv, in a long hot summer afternoon.
Looking at the wind that combs a meadow,
or staring at sea waves, cold and blue.
Reading the timetable, nose up in the air.
Water’s boiling, the oven’s warm, delivery’s on his way.
Before opening that envelope, that email, that message. Eyes on the box.
You linger on the watch.
Could you be waiting
and not expecting?
Seduto sul divano, l’orecchio al campanello.
In piedi alla fermata del bus, la musica che pulsa nelle cuffie.
Davanti a una fila di sedie vuote, e a un quadro bianco.
Mentre fumi, mangi, bevi.
Col telefono in mano, nel traffico o al ristorante.
Prima di un esame, di un colloquio, di una visita.
Quando un negozio non è aperto, ancora.
Oppure quando aspetti un passaggio da qualcuno.
Nel letto, a Natale. O la settimana del tuo compleanno.
In fila per un libro, un film, un autografo.
Di fronte alla tv, un caldo e lunghissimo pomeriggio d’estate.
Mentre guardi il vento che pettina un prato,
o fissi le onde del mare, fredde e blu.
Quando leggi il tabellone alla stazione, col naso all’insù.
L’acqua che bolle, il forno caldo, il corriere per strada.
Prima di aprire quella busta, quell’email, quel messaggio. Gli occhi sulla confezione.
Indugi sull’orologio.
